Meng French Medium Tank Somua S35 (WWT-009)

My mojo has been very off the last couple of months. I tried to build a car (the Monogram Black Widow Hot Rod) and a tank (Tamiya 1/35 Tiger I), and ended up scrapping both of them, as I got too frustrated. I picked this one out of the stash, hoping for a quick build that would get my juices running again. It did the trick.

Assembly was rather straightforward, as expected. I glued many of the parts, even though the kit is not intended to be glued. There are two decals options - the German (captured) subject on the box art, and a French version. I chose the French version, since the camouflage was a bit more interesting than the German version (which was solid gray).

I primed with Krylon Colormaxx gray primer. I spray Tamiya XF-57 Buff around the turret - it was darker than I would have preferred, but shows up OK in the photos. I used AMMO 0074 Green Moss for the green, and 0034 Rust Tracks for the dark brown. The green on the hull was airbrushed, but the green on the turret was hand painted to get a sharp demarcation. The brown on both turret and hull was hand brushed for the same reason. Gloss coat was Quick Shine, final flat coat was Micro Flat.

Build completed July, 2025.
