This kit was a very recent purchase, and was intended as a test bed for Vallejo paints. I have a number of aftermarket decal sheets for the E-4, so find a subject wasn't difficult. I went with a subject from Cutting Edge CED48189 Bf 109E "Emils" Part 2. I liked the look of the tiger stripes in lieu of typical mottling. As a bonus, I knew it would not be difficult to paint.

The kit went together without any problems. I primed with Tamiya Grey Primer from the 40mL bottle, thinned with Mr. Leveling Thinner. I used Model Air for the RLM 65 on the bottom and RLM 02 on the top. I had intended to use Model Air for the RLM 71 as well, until I realized I didn't have any, so I used AMMO 0233 instead. I also used the AMMO for the tiger stripes. The Model Air was easy to spray, but did chip a little on the tail. In addition some of the top colors leaked under the masking. I was able to touch up with a brush, and the colors matched very well. This is not usually the case with Tamiya.

A gloss coat of Quick Shine was applied. I used the kit decals for the insignia, and the Cutting Edge set for the 13 on the sides and the devil emblem on the cowling. All the decals worked well. Another coat of Quick Shine was followed by AMMO Lucky Matt varnish. I used the Eduard mask (EX130) for the canopy.
