This is the second time I've built this kit, and will probably be the last. I went with the Flying Tigers markings, although I did not use the kit decals.

The kit went together pretty well - I don't recall any major trouble spots. I primed with Painter's Touch Gray Primer from a rattle can that I picked up at Home Depot. It seem to work pretty well, although the Ace Hardware Primer seems to be a touch better (and dries faster). The bottom was XF-20 Medium Grey and the top was XF-52 Flat Earch and XF-58 Olive Green. The camouflage was free-handed.

Decals came from EagleCals 30 A.V.G. Tomahawks 1st Squadron. The subject was also among the kit decals. The decals went on very well, although I had to use a little Solvaset to get them to snuggle down completely. I had created a custom canopy mask for the Monogram P-40B, and planned to use it on this kit, but it did not come close to fitting. On my earlier build of this kit, I used the EZ Mask set for this kit, and my write-up indicates that it worked well, so I used that for the windscreen. It didn't seem to fit that well, and the paint chipped when I removed it - one of the reasons I dislike vinyl masks. The rear windows are easy - there is just the one vertical frame to mask. I used the EZ Mask as a temple to try to mask the main canopy, but it turned out so badly that I just masked it by hand. Much better!
